Don’t be jealous because Revenge Is, a self-described “eco-activist fashion company” (like Tom’s Shoes), beat you to exploiting same-sex marriage for a few sales.
At Los Angeles boutique Kitson last week, (straight-y) actor Hal Sparks “married” Smith & Pyle bandmates Missi Pyle and Shawnee Smith in a faux ceremony hosted by E! personality Giuliana Rancic, which came complete with staged protesters. Aww!
Sales of the label’s “All Love Is Equal” tee will benefit Prop 8′s 2010 repealers Love Honor Cherish, explains Revenge Is founder Marilyn Barrett.

With three presidential candidates now including images of gay couples in their nightly campaign promotional TV spots, Chile’s Catholic Church is very unhappy. Espiscopal Conference Monsignor Alejandro Goic on Monday criticized the presence of two gay women, kissing, in Sen. Eduardo Frei’s TV campaign spots. He said Frei’s ad was last minute attempt “to capture voters” and warned that all the presidential candidates should be “aware there are certain principles that all human beings have.”
“I think that in the interest of capturing votes, the candidates bring up a lot of lifestyles that exist and that they want to have a positive message for everyone,” Goic said. “But from my perspective, there is also a limit.”
Frei’s campaign staff quickly responded: “We need to be inclusive, tolerant, and show respect. There are also many homosexuals in the Church and there are people who have also committed crimes of a sensitive nature, such as pedophilia. They exist everywhere and that is why we are not going to be quiet on this issue.”

There is a very touching and affirming story on ESPN.com about Brendan Burke, how he came out as gay and was accepted by his father, Brian Burke, the president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Brendan Burke, 20, is a former hockey goalie who now assists the University of Miami (Ohio) college hockey team that is ranked No. 1 in the country.
It is an uplifting tale familiar to many gay men — discovering you’re gay, then becoming so miserable about lying that you finally come out. In this tale, dad, step-mom and siblings accept Brendan unconditionally, as do the Miami players and coaches. Brian Burke even marched in Toronto’s Gay Pride Parade with his son.
Brendan, who quit his high school hockey team over the anti-gay vibe in the locker room and the fear he would be discovered, said he told his story to show that hockey can be accepting of gay people.

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee compared gay marriage to polygamy Tuesday. Appearing on CBS News’ webshow @katiecouric, Huckabee told Katie Couric that if you alter marriage to include gay couples “then there is really no limit” to how it might be defined and suggested polygamy would soon follow.
Huckabee, a former Baptist minister, also does not believe gays should be allowed to serve in the military and supports a constitutional amendment defining marriage as a heterosexual union.
He is the presidential choice of social conservatives who attended this year’s Value Voters Summit, the annual conservative meet up sponsored by the Family Research Council (FRC), an ardent opponent of gay and lesbian rights. Surprisingly, former Alaska Governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin trailed in fourth place.

Two years after passing a civil unions law for gay and lesbian couples, Mexico City is preparing to debate gay marriage, the AFP reported. Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) assemblyman David Razu introduced the bill at a press event on Tuesday.
“We only want everyone treated equally under the law, there is no intention to violate anyone’s rights, this simply acknowledges the rights of one social sector with no detriment to another,” he said.
The bill leaves the issue of adoption open. Razu said he expects the issue to be heavily discussed throughout the legislative process.

Two Catholic governors are talking same-sex marriage and Catholicism, and calling out the Catholic Church for threatening to suspend or eliminate social service programs for the poor in Washington, D.C. if the District’s City Council moves to recognize marriage equality for gays and lesbians.
The governors — Maryland’s Gov. Martin O’Malley and Virginia’s outgoing Gov. Tim Kaine — said on WTOP radio that the Church’s nuclear threat, which would end social services to upwards of 68,000 needy residents in D.C., is not in line with the theological history of the Church.
“It’s really not who the church has been. If you look at the church through history, the church will stand in tough situations and continue to do good,” said Gov. Kaine, who himself served as a Catholic missionary in Honduras several decades ago. “I would be very, very disappointed here or anywhere else if the Catholic Church decides ‘Gosh, we don’t like something that’s happening in civil society, so we’re going to retreat into our shell.’”

Warren McGaw and Chris Rumble have become the first Australian gay couple to have their civil partnership ceremony legally recognised. The pair, who have been together for nearly 20 years, held their ceremony yesterday afternoon at the Old Parliament House rose gardens in Canberra.
They are the first to take advantage of new legislation passed in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) earlier this month. However, the right may not last for long as prime minister Kevin Rudd has said he will overturn the law.
MacGaw told ABC News: “We thought we’d take this opportunity not only for gay couples Australia-wide … but just for human rights. I think the majority of Australians are behind us.”

New Jersey voters oppose gay marriage legislation by a slim margin, according to a poll released this morning by Quinnipiac. The poll, conducted between Nov. 17 and Nov. 22, found that 49 percent of adult residents are opposed to giving gay couples the right to marry while 46 percent are in favor of it. Six percent were undecided.
A large crowd, some with signs, gathers at the New Jersey Statehouse Monday in Trenton in support of proposed legislation legalizing same sex marriage.
A poll conducted by Quinnipiac earlier this year had almost the opposite results — 49 percent of voters supported gay marriage while 43 percent did not. “When we asked about gay marriage in April, it won narrow approval. Now that it seems closer to a legislative vote, it loses narrowly with the public,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

Two men were granted a marriage license in Argentina’s capital on Monday, breaking ground in a country and region where laws ban gay marriage. Jose Maria Di Bello and his partner Alex Freyre won the right to get married when a judge ruled last week that a ban on gay marriage violates Argentina’s constitution.
“On December 1st we will become man and man,” said Di Bello, welling up in tears as a city clerk gave him the paperwork.
Buenos Aires Mayor Mauricio Macri said the city will not appeal — in effect inviting other same-sex couples to pursue their rights in court as well.
