Mother of Gay Son Posts You Tube Video of Target Boycott

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Last week, the Target Corporation gave $150,000 to Minnesota Forward, an anti-gay group supporting Republican Tom Emmer’s campaign for Minnesota governor.

According to a CBS News report, “Emmer is a fiery conservative who opposes gay marriage, lauds Arizona’s strict approach to illegal immigration, once advocated chemical castration for sex offenders and wants to lower taxes.”

Enter Randi Reitan, who has a gay son and whose repeated attempts to reach Target executives failed. So what did she do? She took her anger directly to her local Target and had a friend film the encounter.

CA: NOM, Other Right-Wing Groups Spend $1 Million to Bolster Fiorina in Latino Community

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Did you hear what NOM is up to now? With Carly Fiorina’s Senate campaign in trouble, the anti-gay National Organization for Marriage is teaming up with other right-wing extremist groups on a massive ad buy supporting her.

You heard that right. As the Courage Campaign’s NOMTourTracker.com continues to track NOM on their “One Man, One Woman” tour across America, NOM is wasting no time promoting Carly Fiorina right here in California. NOM has joined with other extremist fringe groups such as the Susan B. Anthony List to spend $1 million in Spanish-language ads promoting Fiorina. They call their campaign “Tus Valores” – or “Your Values.”

What are their values? NOM’s values rely on lies and fear to advocate discrimination and second-class citizenship for millions of loving American families. The Susan B. Anthony List’s values rely on the government telling women what we can and cannot do with our own bodies.

MN: The Guy Target Didn’t Back is Pro-Gay Marriage

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Antigay Republican Tom Emmer is making headlines for benefiting from Target Corp.’s $150K contribution to a conservative PAC supporting his bid for governor of Minnesota.

What isn’t making many headlines is the identity of his likely opponent. Pro-gay former U.S. senator Mark Dayton is in the lead heading into the August 10 Democratic primary. An heir to Dayton-Hudson Corp. fortune, Mark Dayton is the great-grandson of George Dayton, who stared the Dayton’s department store chain. In 1962, Dayton’s opened the first Target, a discount department store.

“Mark Dayton’s connection to Target is mostly a historical one,” his deputy campaign manager Katharine Tinucci told The Advocate.

New Study: Kids in Gay Families Fare as Well as in Straight Ones

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Some researchers are calling for an end to bans on gay adoption. A study by one scientific journal says kids raised by gay parents are no worse off than kids raised by heterosexual couples.

The study is published in the August issue of “Applied Developmental Science”.

The also suggests that kids raised by gay couples are in some ways better off. The researchers say their findings should lead to the end of bans on gay adoptions.

MN: 30 Show Up for NOM Rally in Rochester

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Same-sex marriage opponents rallied in Rochester on Friday, with organizers calling on supporters to back political candidates who support defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

“Get active, and one of the ways you can get active is by getting people registered to vote in your church,” said Chuck Darrell, communication director for the Minnesota Family Council. “We’ve got to protect the governorship.”

Roughly 30 people turned out for the lunchtime rally in the parking lot of New Life Worship Center in Rochester. The event was sponsored by the National Organization for Marriage as part of the “Summer for Marriage, One Man – One Woman Tour.”

Rush: I Agree With Elton, No Gay Marriage

Friday, July 30th, 2010

US radio host Rush Limbaugh said this week that he and Elton John share the same anti-gay marriage views. Limbaugh, known as a controversial shock jock, said on Wednesday that he and the singer support civil unions but not marriage for gay couples.

John, who is in a civil partnership, was accused of selling out the gay community for performing at Limbaugh’s wedding last month for a reported $1 million. Limbaugh, who has been accused of racism and homophobia, said: “Elton John is not married to David Furnish, and Elton John is not a supporter of gay marriage.

“Elton John is on the same page as I am, as is Obama on gay marriage. He’s for civil unions, but he’s not for marriage.” This week, John branded stars who have refused to perform in Arizona “f**kwits”.
