Victor Oswald, Officiant - Chicago, IllinoisI am a certified celebrant belonging to the Celebrant USA Foundation, as well as a wedding officiant. I both officiate and design personalized weddings, vow renewals, same-gender ceremonies, divorces, and end-of-life and pet tributes for people of all beliefs and values in the greater Chicago area.

Before I did so, I thoughtfully considered why I should become a Celebrant. It is because there are so many reasons to be thankful. So many people have touched my life, and I feel it is time to repay that kindness. Over the past years I have become a more socially conscious citizen, convinced, no matter what our beliefs, that we are all connected and truly “one” with the Universe.

There are only a few occasions in life that are momentous. It will be my pleasure and honor to work with you as we create a personalized commitment or wedding ceremony which will reflect your most sincere wishes and desires.

Together we will unfurl a beautiful memory!

Apple Removes Anti Gay Manhattan Declaration App

Friday, November 26th, 2010

Apple has apparently removed an app from its iTunes store which rails against gay marriage and LGBT rights. The app, created by a Christian group, disappeared from the online store after media attention, including a report on PinkNews.co.uk.

It was based on the Manhattan Declaration, a manifesto released in 2009 by Christian and Catholic leaders which rails against the “erosion” of marriage.

Apple did not return requests for comment and calls to Manhattan Declaration organisers went unanswered.

IA: GOP Promises Focus on Jobs, Not Social Issues

Friday, November 26th, 2010

Iowa Gay MarriageIowa Republicans say state spending and jobs will take precedence over social issues such as gay marriage at the upcoming legislative session.

Although many Republicans have been strongly opposed to the legalization of gay marriage in Iowa, House Speaker-elect Kraig Paulsen says he thinks voters are most concerned about reducing the size of government and creating jobs.

Tim Albrecht, a spokesman for Gov-elect Terry Branstad agrees, saying the Republican stressed jobs in his campaign because that’s what people care about most.

Featured Gay Friendly Wedding Vendor: The Tidewater Motel, Vinalhaven, Maine

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

Periodically we’ll feature one of our vendors here to let our readers know about some great people who can help you plan the perfect wedding.

Gay Friendly Location Wedding Vendors in Maine

The Tidewater MotelThe Tidewater Motel on Vinalhaven is closer to the water than any place that’s not a boat. The Tidewater is built on a bridge; the ebb and flow of the tides provides a soundtrack to your stay as the water flows directly beneath your room, inches away. That same rush of ocean water once powered a granite polishing mill, blacksmith shop and grist mill on the site, a marvel of ingenuity.

To the seaward, in Carvers Harbor, the world’s most productive lobster fleet is anchored right outside your window. On the other side is Carver’s Pond, the harbor’s tidal estuary, and the town and island of Vinalhaven, waiting to be explored.

You can sit on your private deck and dangle your toes (if you have particularly long toes) in the water or lie in bed, open the window, and let the rushing tide’s unforgettable lullaby sing you to sleep. Few views can equal those at the Tidewater and fe places are as relaxing. Whether you come to Vinalhaven to work or play, the Tidewater’s cozy harbor side and town side units, some with fully furnished kitchens, will make you wish you never had to leave.

Tidewater Motel is the perfect place to get away from it all for your honeymoon.

CA: Harris Wins AG, State Will Not Fight Prop 8 Lawsuit

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

Kamala HarrisSan Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris will be California’s next attorney general, after her Republican opponent conceded today – a full three weeks after the Nov. 2 election.

Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley had declared victory on election night, only to see the race flip-flop between the two candidates in the coming days as counties around the state continued to tally mail-in and provisional ballots. This morning, Cooley called Harris – who is now leading by 50,000 votes – to concede and congratulate her.

She will become the state’s first female attorney general. In a written statement, Cooley said his campaign “believes that we cannot make up the current gap in the vote count.”

RI: Governor Chafee Snubs NOM, Wants Marriage Equality Bill from Assembly ASAP

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

RI Governor Elect Lincoln ChafeeThe National Organization for Marriage (NOM) is whining because Rhode Island Governor-elect Lincoln Chafee won’t entertain supporting a 2012 voter referendum on same-sex marriage and has reiterated his commitment to equality. The Providence Journal reports that Christopher Plante, the head of NOM’s Rhode Island chapter, paid a visit to Chafee’s office:

Plante said he dropped by Chafee’s transition office unannounced about two weeks ago, and came away from his conversation with aide Michael Trainor believing that the governor-elect was open to sitting down and talking with people on all sides of the gay-marriage debate.

Hence his “surprise” when he received a letter from Trainor, reaffirming the position that Chafee stated repeatedly through his campaign for governor over the last year. It said: “The governor elect feels that the issue should be addressed as soon as possible by the General Assembly, and does not believe that the question should be decided by a ballot referendum.”
