With Washington state’s new law permitting gay marriage officially headed to the ballot, more than $1 million has been raised so far to support the measure compared with only $120,000 to defeat it, state records show.
Most of the money on both sides is coming from inside the state, with about $900,000 raised locally in favor of passing the same-sex marriage referendum and about $84,000 against it.
But a significant chunk of money is also coming from outside the state — mostly from Washington, D.C., California and New York, according to figures compiled by the state’s Public Disclosure Commission.
