The city of Milan, Italy opened a “civil union” registry on September 18, allowing the first formal recognition for same-sex unions.
The first couple to enter their names in the registry were Paolo Hutter and Paolo Oddi. Hutter, a former member of the city council, is a veteran gay-rights activists who staged same-sex “marriages” at the mayor’s office 20 years ago.
