EQUALITY activists have welcomed the election to the NSW parliament of Alex Greenwich, who is believed to be Australia’s first MP in a same-sex marriage.
Mr Greenwich, the former convener of Australian Marriage Equality (AME), won the seat of Sydney on Saturday in a landslide by-election victory.
The independent was endorsed by incumbent Clover Moore, who had to resign the seat after state government legislation forced her to choose between her dual roles as MP and Sydney Lord Mayor. Mr Greenwich married his partner in Argentina in May.
