It started out as a tiny grassroots political campaign in Melbourne back in 2004. Eight years on, the campaign for marriage equality is being taken up in regional towns all over the country, with Wodonga’s first ever marriage equality rallly attracting hundreds of people in support..
The Border’s first Equal Love rally took place on the weekend in Albury-Wodonga and it was organised by a young heterosexual woman, Rhiannon Konigson.
She decided to take action after meeting a young gay man one night in town. ‘He’d had a bit to drink and he told us he’d tried to commit suicide because he thought his parents would disown him.’
