Illinois, USA: GOP Chair Won’t Step Down After Supporting Marriage Equality

Illinois GOP Chair Won't Step Down After Supporting Marriage EqualityWhen the chairman of the state’s Republican Party stepped up and spoke out in favor of marriage equality last week, LGBT advocates were pleasantly surprised.

But some members of Pat Brady’s own party are livid and want him to step down from his post.

Brady says he isn’t planning to quit.

‘If people want to throw me out because I took a stand on an issue of discrimination [as] the chairman of the Republican Party, the party founded by Abraham Lincoln, then that’s – that’s up to them and they’re free to do it,’Brady tells WBEZ. ‘But I’m not backing down.’
