California, USA: Marriage Equality Conversation Training Around the State in March

Written by scott on March 8th, 2013

Just got this from our partner Marriage Equality USA – learn how to discuss marriage equality with friends and family:

Breakthrough Conversation Training

We are living in exciting times! At the end of the month the Supreme Court will hear the Proposition 8 (Prop 8) and Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). California Faith for Equality is proud to offer four opportunities throughout March around California to help prepare you to speak with your friends and family about equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. Using research-based messaging participants will learn new information and skills that will enable them to move minds and hearts to support equality AND participate in ongoing research. We hope that you will join us at one of these sessions!

There are many queer people who are deeply religious and actively involved in their faith communities. The number of religious communities that openly welcome and support LGBT congregants is growing, but news of this is not reaching the greater society. Breakthrough 2 Love is trying to change that. This campaign is based on “The Breakthrough Conversation” – and idea that change happens when people of faith have open and honest conversations about LGBT inclusion and equality with their friends and family.

The Coalition of Welcoming Congregations of the Bay Area, a program of California Faith for Equality, The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry,The Umoja Project and Progressive Christians Uniting are teaming up in coalition to encourage local congregations to speak and live out inclusive love beginning the weekend of Valentine’s Day (Feb 15-17) through the end of Pride month (June 30).

Clergy and faith leaders! Register your congregation here.

Everyone can join the social media campaign! There are memes, Facebook cover photos and more all available here. You can even get your own customized meme by following these instructions.
