France: Police Won’t Allow Anti Marriage Equality Rally on Champs Elysees

Paris, FranceAs the French Senate prepares to hear the marriage equality bill on April 2nd, opponents are being told they can’t hold a massive rally on Champs Elysees in Paris. Pink News reports:

Equal marriage opponents had been planning a march which promised to be one of the largest yet. Organisers hoped to be able to march down the Champs Elysees, one of the most famous landmarks in Paris, on March 24, showing their opposition to the Marriage for All bill. However, France24 reports that police have turned down the plans, saying they were an “impossibility” due to the Champs Elysees’ proximity to the Elysee Palace, where the French President has his official residence.

The last time they rallied, they so trashed the beautiful city that they were billed $100,000 for clean-up. I can see why the city’s not eager for a repeat visit by these hooligans.
