In the wake of Senator Rob Portman’s announcement that he now endorses marriage equality, support in Ohio has now surpassed 50% for the first time. Pink News reports:
The Saperstein Poll for The Dispatch, has shown that 54% of Ohio voters are in support of new measures to repeal the ban, and to “allow two consenting adults to marry, regardless of their gender.” The percentage of those opposed to the proposal has fallen to 40%. The proposed amendment would preserve religious freedom to choose who they will or will not marry, and wil protect those which refuse to marry a couple.
The last poll we had out of Ohio, just three months ago, showed support and opposition at almost a dead heat, 47% to 46%.
What a difference a few months can make. This new poll mirrors the jump in support nationwide that the recent ABC/Washington Post poll found.
It’s only a matter of time.
