A Catholic priest, Jose Nicholas Alessio, spoke out for marriage equality in 2010 when the Argentinian legislature was considering the gay marriage bill. Now the Catholic Church is throwing him out. Pink News reports:

Originally suspended in 2010, and rejecting the opportunity to retract his statements, Alessio has now been expelled entirely, and said he was very disappointed in the decision of his archbishop’s office, which confirmed his expulsion. “More than 30 years serving God’s people has meant nothing for the Catholic Church. All it took to get thrown out was having an opinion different from that of the archbishop,” he said.

So much for a spirit of tolerance from the new Pope.
