France: 50,000 Anti-Gay Demonstrators Expected In Last Protest Before Final Marriage Equality Vote

Paris, FranceIn a last-ditch effort to derail France’s marriage equality bill, opponents of organized another large anti-gay marriage rally today in Paris. Gay Star News reports:

According to news site France 24, organizers of today’s march say they expect between 30,000 and 50,000 people. In response to the country’s debate on legalizing same-sex marriage, hundreds of thousands of people have rallied in recent months to show their support or opposition to the bill. Paris in particular has been plagued with an increasing number of homophobic attacks in recent weeks. In addition to arrests of anti-gay protestors and reports of gay bashings, politicians have publicly said that approval of the gay marriage bill will result in violence.

Let’s hope we don’t see a repeat of the homophobic violence that has followed previous rallies in Paris.
