A couple new marriage equality stories out of Australia today. First off, there’s a new marriage equality video making the rounds. Joe.My.God reports:
An Australian couple tells their three year-old son that he can’t marry Mommy because “she already has a husband.” Boy: “I want a husband!” Father: “[Prime Minister] Julia Gillard says you can’t have a husband.” Much sobbing ensues.
Julia Gillard, are you listening?
And a Catholic Priest in Canberra stood up for the recognition of gay and lesbian relationships. Pink News reports:
A Catholic priest in the Australian Capital Canberra, has departed from the official teachings of the church to say that committed same-sex relationships should be celebrated. Despite stopping short of supporting civil unions, Father Michael Fallon called for a “public celebration of committed love for homosexual couples”. He went on to say that same-sex couples should be given the same legal rights and public recognition as heterosexual couples, and that he feared that people were being driven away from the Catholic church because of its opposition to homosexuality, reports the Canberra Times.
Maybe one day, Australia’s politicians will embrace marriage equality the same way the Australian public has.
