It’s Just Rude to Object to Anti Gay Laws
OK, so Olympic Skater Jeremy Abbott may not actually be a marriage equality opponent, but what he said yesterday was stupid and deeply insensitive. Towleroad reports:
“Russia is hosting us,” Abbott said. “I’m not going to go into somebody’s house and be like, ‘Um, the way you decorate is hideous, and you need to completely redo this or I’m never coming back.’ It’s a little rude, so I don’t want to say bad things about a country that’s hosting the world, essentially. “Maybe I don’t agree with their policies, and maybe I don’t agree with some things, but that’s for them to sort out. My speaking out just makes me look like an ass.”
Speaking of looking like an ass…
How Dare You Call Us Bigots
Catholic Cardinal Donald Wuerl Is upset that people think he’s a bigot. Joe.My.God reports:
“If someone describes marriage as inherently something between a man and a woman only, is this somehow discrimination, bigotry or even hate speech? Until just a few years ago, this question would be looked upon as absurd. But today it is a real inquiry and an open challenge to the truth about human sexuality, the complementarity of man and woman, and the nature of marriage. The assertion is made that for the Church to profess that some activities are immoral is in itself wrongful and, therefore, Catholics should not be free to publicly proclaim the Church’s revealed and received tradition. When discussions occur within the secular community, the assumed context is called civil discourse and it should not be stifled by gratuitous charges of discrimination against those who hold differing positions on an issue.”
These folks are always conflating the fact that they can’t discriminate against us anymore with the idea that they can’t speak about what they believe. If the Cardinal wants, he can speak until he’s blue in the face about the fact that the sky is green. Doesn’t make him right, but he can say it…
Fathers Are an Endangered Species
Or so National Organization for Marriage chairman John Eastman would have you believe. On Top Magazine reports:
The African-American pastors rose up and they almost single-handedly stopped the redefinition of marriage bill from going through the Illinois legislature. And what we’re trying to do here is redefine the institution of marriage to say that fathers are optional. That’s predictably going to have devastating consequences on civil society. And I think that’s why this thing was pulled from the Illinois Legislature before it went forward. People are standing back now and starting to think about the collateral consequences that may flow from this radical redefinition of marriage.”
How about the collateral damage to children of same-sex parents, who are being denied security of living in a married household?
There Must Be Twenty Ways to Leave Your Gayness
Demonologist and Pastor Rev. Dr. Donald Stewart has the cure for your homosexuality. Whatever the cause. Gay Star News reports:
‘There are no homosexual genes and God never made anybody that way. And that is not something I back away from.’ Stewart has written and published over a dozen books on Christianity, one of which he uses to explain what causes homosexual behavior. ‘There are many different causes for homosexuality,’ according to Stewart, ‘and in one of my books I have about 20 reasons. Depending on what is the cause, the appropriate medicine has to be administered. ‘There are some homosexuals who all they need is a little attention, guidance, and positive male role models in their lives.’
It always amazes me how those who aren’t gay know, I mean really know, what’s going on inside my head. I was born this way. And no amount of rationalizing on your part is going to change that.
Christians Are the New Blacks, Says the Old White Guy
Gotta love this. If some people in the black community were offended by gays using the language of civil rights, how they feel when Bryan Fischer, an old white man co-opts it? On Top Magazine reports:
“Essentially, what this court has done and what the Obama administration has done with this abortifacient mandate is that they have turned Christians into Dred Scott,” Fischer argued during his Focal Point radio show. “What the Supreme Court of New Mexico has done, they have said that Christians have no rights that this court is bound to respect. So to me, this looks like Jim Crow is alive and well. We’ve got Jim Crow laws right back in operation. Christians are the new blacks.”
I’m sorry, but when the leader of an organization that works to discriminate against one group compares themselves to another group that has faced huge historic discrimination, that’s offensive.
