The ProclaimersThe band the Proclaimers called on Scotland’s Parliament to pass the marriage equality bill.

Pink News reports:

The band, composed of twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid, celebrated their 30th anniversary this year with a greatest hits album and a live tour of the UK and North America. Speaking from rehearsals for the tour Charlie Reid explained: “I support equality, and equality in marriage is part of that. It’s vital that gay people be given the same rights as straight people.” Craig Reid added: “If you believe in equality, and you know that something is unequal, then you want to do something about it. It’s not doing anybody harm, it’s not lessening rights; it’s extending rights and that’s why we support it. We’re progressive people; we think that Scotland has to move forward, and equal marriage for gay and transgender people is part of that.”

And Scottish author and broadcaster Muriel Gray also spoke out for marriage equality.

Pink News reports:

Speaking from her home in Glasgow, Gray urges Scotland’s politicians to vote for the equal marriage Bill: “To MSPs who are still undecided I would say examine your conscience, and think why on earth would you oppose something that represents commitment, stability, love and a total commitment to society?” She adds: “I can’t actually think of a reason not to support equal marriage. Normally most discussions and issues have one side and the other, but there isn’t another side – I can’t think of any logical or even emotional argument against gay marriage.”

It’s time for full marriage equality across the UK, including Scotland and Northern Ireland.
