USA, California: Prison Officials Say Gay, Lesbian Inmates Can Marry

Written by scott on September 5th, 2013

California MapCalifornia prison officials say they will allow prisoners in same sex relaitonships to marry.

LGBTQ Nation reports:

Michael Stainer, director of the adult institutions division for the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations, issued a memo on Friday stating that the U.S. Supreme Court decision that made same-sex marriages legal again in the state in June also applies to prisoners. But Stainer says gay or bisexual inmates will only be allowed to marry same-sex partners who are not incarcerated and only during prison ceremonies. He says marriages between two prisoners would raise too many security concerns.

So jailhouse romances do not qualify… you have to wonder if that’s because of the threat of coercion among inmates?
