USA, Pennsylvania: New Hope Mayor Speaks Out Against Marriage Equality Ban

Written by scott on September 9th, 2013

Pennsylvania mapA week after refusing to officiate weddings for same-sex couples in the city, the mayor of New Hope has spoken out against the ban on gay marriage in Pennsylvania.

Philly.com reports:

Less than a week after announcing that he would not officiate at a same-sex wedding, the mayor of New Hope – one of the state’s gay-friendliest towns – has sent a letter to Gov. Corbett expressing his support for same-sex marriage. “As a fellow Republican,” Larry Keller wrote, “I am writing to share my views on same-sex marriage in a time where I fear the laws of our state are out of touch with what is right and just.”

Well, that’s a step in the right direction, at least. I didn’t realize that the mayor of New Hope was Republican. That explains things.
