Seriously? What Marriage Equality Opponents Are Saying

Written by scott on July 9th, 2014

Seriously? Here’s the the latest in our ongoing series of some of the crazy things the anti-gay marriage equality opponents are saying and doing around the world.

Adult Gays Should Be “Drowned With a Millstone Around Their Necks”
Coach Dave Daubenmire, an anti-gay activist in Missouri, went to the pride parade in Springfield. This is what he had to say. “I just returned home with a group of hearty men from witnessing at the Homosexual Pride Parade in Springfield, Missouri. As usual, I was heartbroken by the age of those who have been captured by the ‘lifestyle.’ Take a look at these photos. Notice the young souls parading their sin in the public streets [..] These are somebody’s daughters. I wonder if their Mom’s and Dad’s hearts’ are broken too? It would have been better for these adults had they been drowned with a millstone around their necks than having mislead one of these little ones.” I mean, seriously, why are we even calling these people “Christian” any more?

Our Anti Gay Law is Totally Not Anti Gay
Uganda is wading into the weeds again, insisting its anti-gay law has nothing to do with the gays, really. The law was created “with a view to curbing open promotion of homosexuality, especially among children and other vulnerable groups.
However, its enactment has been misunderstood as a piece of legislation intended to punish and discriminate against people of a ‘homosexual orientation,’ especially by our development partners.” So see, there’s nothing to worry about here. Give us back our aid money. Gee, I wonder if the church groups who pushed so hard to have the law passed would be surprised to hear that it has noting to do with the gays?

Governor Brown is Annihilating Maleness and Femaleness
Tony Perkins has his knickers in a twist over a law just signed by California Governor Jerry Brown that removes the terms “husband” and “wife” from the state’s marriage laws, replacing them with “spouse”. He tweets: “Gov. Brown bans husband/wife and proves that redefining marriage is really about abolishing marriage” and “With ban of “husband” and “wife”, Gov. brown is seeking to annihilate a concept – the notion of maleness and femaleness.” What Perkins doesn’t get is that there is a difference between using terms that include for everyone entering into marriage, and abolishing or annihilating them. It’s about respect, something Perkins apparently knows nothing about. And FYI, I love the term “husband”. I call Mark that all the time. But I’m betting Perkins wouldn’t approve of that, either.

Naked Money Turns Kids Gay
That’s the claim being made by Russian Politician Roman Khudyakov, who wants the 100 ruble noter changed to remove a naked statue. “”I submitted a parliamentary request and forwarded it directly to the head of the central bank asking for the banknote to be brought into line with the law protecting children and to remove this Apollo… The 100-ruble bill with a picture of Apollo is essentially a print product and can in fact be considered as ‘information of a pornographic nature.” Crazy. This is right up there with GOP politicians changing the name of French Fries to freedom Fries because they hated the French.
