CBS Turns Down Gay Dating Ad for Superbowl

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

In a public display of open homophobia rarely seen by large corporations today, CBS rejected an ad featuring two men kissing from the Super Bowl lineup. The ad was for the gay dating site, ManCrunch.com. CBS stated that the ad “is not within the Network’s broadcast standards for Super Bowl Sunday.”

However, in the past Super Bowl ads have featured half naked women violently fighting with each other while being sprayed with water. These are the values that CBS feels are more appropriate to align themselves with.

CBS is known for running the most entertaining and cutting edge commercials during the Super Bowl, as advertisers go all out in terms of both expenditure and creativity to catch the eye of the large viewing audience. Even news websites, such as Slate, run reviews of Super Bowl commercials, making the commercials more of a part of the viewing experience of the game than an afterthought. Excluding representation of gay men from the airwaves during the event, is effectively exiling them from sharing in this Nationwide event.

Gay Marriage Commercial to Air During Miss California Pageant

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Gay marriage ad to air on Miss California TV; In response, Carrie Prejean will respond with 30 seconds of video about….nothing. Oh, and you sick freaks thought thought she was going to air something like this?

The Miss California USA beauty pageant is anything but dull and this year’s gig — on Sunday — just turned as political as last year’s. You remember that ruckus, with Carrie Prejean and Perez and gay marriage and — eventually — “solo” sex tapes and lawsuits and quickly-penned memoirs and Larry King being “inappropriate.”

With that kind of pedigree, it’s no surprise this year’s pageant will be on TV for the first time in 15 years. (Sunday at 3 p.m. — check your local listings.) Gotta be better reality TV than Jon and Kate. Here’s the political twist: In an effort to make up to last year’s ruckus participants, pageant czars offered to donate — yes DONATE — 30-seconds of ad time to Equality California and Prejean. Equality California said yes. Prejean — through her attorney — declined.

New No on R71 Ad Exposes Religious Bigotry Against Gays

Friday, October 9th, 2009

This is not a spoof. This is a real advertisement being run in Washington State by Protect Marriage Washington in an effort to thwart Referendum 71 which provides a comprehensive civil union law. Here we have Adam and Eve (not Steve) portrayed by Ken and Barbie. Presumably, togas were the fashion statement of the day. Adam has a fresh shave and a frat-boy haircut. Eve found a curling iron and other requisites of her do.

BTW, at about 20 seconds in, what’s with the leaf throwing? It’s like an Ed Wood movie incorporating discarded stock footage.

Maine: New Anti Gay Marriage Ad Recycles Prop 8 Footage

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Remember this couple? You should. They were featured in an ad scaring California voters into passing Prop 8 by telling them the lie that children would forced to learn about homosexuality in schools if the measure was passed.

They’re back. This time in an ad scaring Maine voters into voting ‘Yes on 1′ by telling the same lie, using the same footage.

Schubert Flint, the consultants behind Prop 8 in California, are also behind these ads. Surprise.

New Study: Strong Advertising Can Reach Republicans on Gay Marriage

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

A powerful and well-produced commercial can make even hardwired Republicans more sympathetic to the cause of marriage equality, according to a new study.

Released by the group Truth and Hope, a liberal grassroots group, the study looked at the effects of targeted marriage equality advertisements on a group of voters. Researchers surveyed 851 self-declared Democrats, Republicans, and independents and found that the majority of all parties reported that an ad supportive of marriage equality was effective.

The commercial in question featured a heterosexual baby-boomer couple speaking fondly of their gay son, his partner, and the gay couple’s children.
