UK: Bristol Register Office Rejects Straight Couple’s Civil Partnership Request

UK Couple Request Civil PartnershipA heterosexual couple from Bristol are to start a legal challenge after their application for a civil partnership was refused.Ian Goggin, 21, and Kristin Skarsholt, 22, said they wanted the security and stability of a legal commitment without having to get married.

At present only gay couples can apply for civil partnerships. The pair are among eight couples taking their case to the courts, arguing UK law is discriminatory.

Their bid is part of the Equal Love campaign, which seeks to overturn the twin prohibitions on gay marriages and heterosexual civil partnerships.

UK: Another Straight Couple to File for Civil Partnership

Peter Tatchell will look on as a straight couple file an application for a civil partnership tomorrow.

Ian Goggin and Kristin Skarsholt, who have been together for two years, will apply at Bristol Register Office tomorrow morning in the name of ‘heterosexual equality.’

Students Kristin, 22, and Ian, 21, expect their appeal to be rejected, but upon receiving the rejection in writing, intend to seek further legal action.
