UT: HRC Kicks Off Bus Tour in Salt Lake City

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

The Human Rights Campaign is embarking on a 17-city tour to raise awareness of the lack of gay rights laws in several states, starting with Utah.

The HRC will spend the weekend in Utah, trying to educate residents about laws that could protect LGBT citizens who may be discriminated against at work or when trying to find a home.

“A disproportionate number of Utahns believe in basic fairness for LGBT people, believe that we should be protected from workplace discrimination, believe that we should be free from violence and fear and intimidation,” HRC president Joe Solmonese (pictured) told an ABC affiliate in Salt Lake City.

HRC Plans Nationwide Marriage Equality Bus Tour in August

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

HRC Marriage Equality Bus TourThe Human Rights Campaign announced this week that it will launch a nationwide “LGBT Equality” bus tour in August with stops planned for 17 cities in 11 mostly conservative states in the Midwest and South over a 12-week period.

The national LGBT rights group says its aim is to draw attention to the fact that LGBT people lack legal protections in these states in employment, housing and public accommodations.

A lack of legal protection for same-sex relationships, including LGBT families with children, will also be discussed through workshops, forums and other events in the locations where the bus will stop, HRC said.

NOM Defector Launches Challenge to NOM, Plans Bus Tour

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

National Organization for Marriage EqualityLouis Marinelli, the defector from the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) who planned and served as the bus driver on NOM’s hateful “Summer for Marriage Tour”, has launched a new group, the National Organization for Marriage Equality (NOME) and according to his site, plans to visit 17 states on a tour this summer.

He writes:

“This summer we plan to travel the country from California to Maine to talk about my change of heart on the issue of marriage equality and talk with conservatives and republicans about why they should support the freedom to marry.

“This tour, which is modeled in part after the Summer for Marriage Tour I helped organize last summer for the National Organization for Marriage to oppose same-sex marriage, aims to revisit many of the places NOM visited last year to spread its discriminatory and bigoted message against gay and lesbian citizens.”

NOM Defector Plans Summer Tour for Marriage Equality

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

Gay Marriage Bus TourNOM defector Louis Marinelli, who last year planned and drove the bus on NOM’s anti-gay ‘Summer for Marriage’ tour, is planning another bus tour this summer, this time for marriage equality.

As you may recall, Marinelli defected from the anti-gay organization several months ago after announcing that pro-equality activists he met on the NOM tour changed his mind about marriage.

Marinelli has posted a page detailing the tour and requesting contributions to fund it.

NY: Anti Gay “Mayday for Marriage” Bus Tour Starts

Saturday, May 7th, 2011

New York Marriage EqualityTheir message is simple, keep same-sex marriage out of New York State. Reverend Jason McGuire, of the New Yorker’s Family Research Foundation, said, “In same-sex marriage relationships we’re intentionally denying children a mom or a dad. That’s just not right and just not good public policy. We want to encourage marriage between a man and a women.”

Barry Keller, of Wellsburg, said, “I’ve always been a student of history and the marriage is at the very core of civilization. Anytime through history when that institution has failed or lost strength, literally, civilization has collapsed.”

The New Yorker’s Family Research Foundation kicked-off their “Mayday For Marriage Tour”, here in Elmira. The group travels around the state preaching marriage should only be between a man and a woman.

NY: NOM Announces Another Bus Tour for Bigotry

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

NOM Bus Tour in New YorkHaving learned nothing from NOM’s disastrous bus tour last summer, the anti-gay Christianists at the Family Research Foundation have announced a “Mayday For Marriage” RV tour around New York state.

By the time you read this, our ministry team will be on the road taking the debate over same-sex marriage to legislative districts across the Empire State. We’ve packed our bags, loaded up an RV wrapped in marriage messaging and will be stopping at various press conferences, marriage rallies and visits with legislators from Buffalo to Binghamton, Syracuse to Staten Island, and Lackawanna to Long Island.

May 22nd will be “Mayday for Marriage” Sunday. NYFRF is encouraging the 5,000 churches on our mailing list to focus on marriage during worship services on this particular day.

IA: NOM Anti Judge Bus Tour in Cedar Rapids: 20 Show Up vs. 150 Protesters

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

NOM Bus Tour - Cedar RapidsIf event attendees are any indication of ballot totals following midterm elections Tuesday, three Iowa Supreme Court justices up for a retention vote next week will overwhelmingly maintain their seats.

At least 150 people filed through security at the Linn County Courthouse Wednesday afternoon in order to stand in support of the justices, who have been targeted by several national anti-gay groups for their unanimous 2009 ruling that legalized same-sex marriage in Iowa.

An hour later and five blocks east, supporters of the movement to oust the justices numbered 20 – and were nearly matched in numbers by counter-demonstrators. Supporters on both sides view the conflict as fundamental to the fabric of an ideal society, albeit for differing reasons, and emotions ran high when those of opposing views met face to face.

IA: NOM Kick Out the Judges Tour in Des Moines: 42 People Show Up

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

NOM BusEquality supporters 98, NOM 42. That was the tally at the first stop for the NOM tour bus in Iowa.

NOM simply doesn’t give up, and sadly there has been a lot of money poured into Iowa to get rid of the judges responsible for marriage equality in that state. But the kickoff stop has proven that hate doesn’t draw crowds for Brian Brown or Maggie Gallagher. It’s embarrassing from a PR perspective. Prop 8 Trial Tracker has coverage:

This morning on the steps of the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines, 98 equality supporters and several media outlets assembled to kickoff the Homegrown Justice Tour, a counter-tour organizing events in cities across Iowa to greet the Judge Bus.
