Victor Oswald, Chicago Wedding OfficiantI am a certified celebrant belonging to the Celebrant USA Foundation, as well as a wedding officiant. I both officiate and design personalized weddings, vow renewals, same-gender ceremonies, divorces, and end-of-life and pet tributes for people of all beliefs and values in the greater Chicago area.

Before I did so, I thoughtfully considered why I should become a Celebrant. It is because there are so many reasons to be thankful. So many people have touched my life, and I feel it is time to repay that kindness. Over the past years I have become a more socially conscious citizen, convinced, no matter what our beliefs, that we are all connected and truly “one” with the Universe.

IL: Chicago Marriage Equality Rally Planned for Sunday Morning

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

Chicago Marriage Equality RallyGay rights activists and community allies will show support for a gay marriage bill, which was introduced Wednesday in the Illinois General Assembly, during a protest Sunday outside Holy Name Cathedral.

State Reps. Greg Harris, Deb Mell, and Kelly Cassidy filed the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act on Wednesday. The bill provides that all laws of Illinois applicable to marriage apply equally to marriages of same-sex and different-sex couples.

The bill comes on the heels of Tuesday’s ruling by the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, holding that California’s denial of marriage in favor of domestic partnerships for same sex couples violated the U.S. Constitution.

IL: Group Collecting Signatures for Marriage Equality Ban in Chicago

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

Illinois Gay Marriage BanA group of 15 men and women representing the Illinois Defense of Marriage Initiative was spotted in front of the Art Institute of Chicago Aug. 22.

Some held signs that said “Honk for Traditional Marriage.” However, the focus was on the group’s statewide effort to place an advisory marriage referendum on the 2012 Illinois ballot. Several individuals approached passers-by in an attempt to get signatures on their petition. Approximately a dozen Chicago police officers on mountain bikes monitored the group.

There were some heated exchanges between some pedestrians and the group’s members. At one point a woman shouted “This is hateful! YOU’RE the ones going to hell.” One of the group’s organizers responded that he was “just out doing his job.”

IL: Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel Now Supports Marriage Equality

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011

In Washington, Rahm Emanuel engaged in political homophobia. Not homophobic in the traditional definition, but sure thought acting on gay issues was politically dangerous. They’re the people who like the gay money during campaigns, but not doing the gay legislation once they win. As Chief of Staff, Rahm had a 1993 view of equality. And, don’t think people working in advocacy didn’t know this.

Now, as Mayor, Rahm is a supporter of marriage equality:

BLITZER: Is it a big deal or a little deal, from your perspective, that the president, at least so far, refuses to endorse gay marriage?

EMANUEL: Wolf, whatever perspective I have, I’ll share with him. I’m proud that here in the city and the state, let me give one example of why I love — why I think this job is so important. Illinois passed a civil union. Worked on it as a candidate as well as a mayor-elect, making phone calls to finally pass that. A member of my staff, in fact, in this room, I oversaw the first kind of official thing, one of the first official things of my job, within the first 30 days, actually, a union between — between my senior adviser and his partner.
