Ireland: Protest Held for Marriage Equality

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Ireland Marriage Equality RallyCampaign group LGBT Noise today gathered in Dublin to call on the Government to grant civil marriages to all in Ireland regardless of sexual orientation.

“Unlike in many other jurisdictions, civil partnership does not afford equal rights to same-sex couples. It has been audited by a team of legal experts and they have identified 169 rights which are available in marriage which are absolutely prohibited in civil partnership,” said Max Krzyzanowski, Noise organiser.

Decked out with hearts and rainbow colours, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights group drew a crowd outside Leinster House today promoting their annual March for Marriage, set to take place on August 12th. The group, along with students from Trinity and UCD LGBT societies, gave out Valentine’s Day-themed sweets and asked the Oireachtas to “have a heart” and grant marriage equality.

Ireland: Thousands to March for Marriage Equality Saturday

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Thousands will take to the streets of Dublin this Sunday, August 14, to march for marriage equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Ireland.

The protestors, led by the LGBT Noise organization, claim that even though civil partnerships between same-sex couples were legally recognized from January 1 of this year, the legislation is still missing vital components that differentiate it from marriage.

Max Krzyzanowski, spokesman for the group, said the “denial” of civil marriage equality in Ireland was a human rights issue. “The Civil Partnership Act 2011 has only served to cement inequality in Irish society by explicitly excluding LGBT people from the institution of marriage,” he said.

Ireland: Thousands March Through Dublin for Marriage Equality

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Thousands of campaigners have marched through the streets of Dublin to demand same sex couples have full civil marriage rights. Activists in the March for Marriage protested against the Civil Partnership Bill, which they claims treats them as second class citizens and does not recognise same sex families.

The legislation, which was signed into law last month, gives same sex couples legal recognition. But campaigners maintain it leaves children of same-sex couples vulnerable and unprotected under Irish law.

The demonstration from City Hall to the Department of Justice on St Stephen’s Green, was organised by Noise, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) campaign group.
