CO, USA: Focus on the Family Agrees to Meet With Soulforce

Soulforce Meets With Focus on the FamilySoulforce announced today that it would meet with leaders from Focus on the Family for the first time since their tour began five years ago.

From Sunday, April 15 through Thursday, April 19, the “Equality Ride” will tour Denver and Colorado Springs, where they will meet with evangelical organization Focus on the Family, which has agreed to sit down with the “Equality Riders” for the first time in the five years of the tour.

On Monday, Soulforce’s Executive Director Rev. Dr. Cindi Love will join the activists on Focus on the Family’s campus to discuss the organization’s oppressive values that target the LGBTQ and allied community. In past years, Focus on the Family has arrested individuals advocating for LGBTQ rights on their property.

CO: Did Focus on the Family Cook the Books on Civil Unions Poll?

Colorado Civil Unions PollColorado Springs-based Christian-right group Focus on the Family last week submitted to a state Senate committee survey results suggesting that a majority of Coloradans do not support same-sex civil unions. The results of the survey, which was conducted by political marketing firm Advantage Inc, run counter to mounting public-opinion data reported by well-known firms such as Public Policy Polling, Greenberg Quinlan Rosner and American Viewpoint.

The Advantage poll was commissioned by Focus political action arm CitizenLink and was delivered to the Senate Judiciary Committee by a representative of Catholic Charities during a hearing on a civil unions bill sponsored by Denver Democrat Pat Steadman.

During the hearing, Berthoud Republican Senator Kevin Lundberg cited the survey results to bolster his case against the bill.

Focus On the Family CEO Concedes Defeat Again, Sorta…

Jim Daly, CEO, Focus on the FamilyAfter taking back his concession on gay marriage, Focus on the Family CEO Jim Daly suggests it’s over for opponents of gay marriage.

Yet in a new interview, Daly said unless trends shift opponents have lost.

“What I was trying to say in that interview, when the question was asked about the younger generation, is you can’t deny the stats. So when you’re looking at that and they’re saying 65 to 70 percent of those under 40 or 35 – I can’t remember exactly – support same-sex marriage, if that does not change within that community as they become 50 or 60, yeah it’s over,” Daly told the Colorado Springs Independent.

Focus on the Family Head: Right is Losing Marriage Equality Battle

Focus on the Family president Jim Daly has apparently decided to wave the white flag of war…er… surrender while speaking to World Magazine’s Marvin Olasky. Daly is likely responding to the recent set of polling showing that support for marriage equality today is far higher than it was for interracial marriage from 1969 (when it was made legal) to 1991.

What is more, he continues to hold a rather delusional view that they are winning on abortion when it comes to the youth of this nation. The reality is that most people want abortion to be legal, but only moderately restricted. They have cut away at abortion rights through a thousand little cuts restricting it further and further while their thugs go out and bully doctors into not performing abortions under threat of death.

CO: Focus on the Family on Spending Spree Against Gay Rights

Colorado Springs-based Focus on the Family is behind a major spending campaign involving anti-gay state groups called “Ignite an Enduring Cultural Transformation” in more than a dozen states supporting anti-LGBT initiatives, the Colorado Independent reports:

The campaign, which largely targets states where Republicans won control of legislatures or governorships, has garnered the support of Republican political superstars such as former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (Va.), Sens. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Jon Kyl (Ariz.), and Rep. Trent Franks (Ariz.).

The groups intend to pass anti-gay marriage amendments, curtail abortion rights and, in at least one case, ban “transgender bathrooms.”
