Courtney Love Joins NoH8

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Courtney Love for NoH8When we first saw this new picture from the No H8 Campaign, we thought, who is that genderless, tattooed woodland nymph creature?

But then we remembered that the No H8 Campaign hates wrinkles, frown lines, blotchy skin and acne scars as much as it hates homophobia. It was then that we realized we were looking at a picture of the equally revered and reviled Courtney Love. (Although, if someone was to tell us this was an aggressively Photoshopped picture of Bret Michaels, we might believe it.)

Though we might joke about how much the No H8 Campaign wants everyone they shoot to look like a pre-teen, gay-friendly alien version of themselves, we do have to tip our hats to them: Their continued dedication to using celebrities to raise awareness about homophobia is definitely a good thing.

NV: Gay Service Members to Join NoH8 Campaign

Friday, October 14th, 2011

As gay and lesbian service members celebrate the end of the Pentagon’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy at their first ever professional conference here this weekend, some plan to strike a pose for marriage rights that still are beyond their reach.

The NOH8 Campaign will be on hand Friday at the OutServe Armed Forces Leadership Summit to shoot portraits of participants who want to join the movement to overturn Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California. The photographic silent protest features subjects with duct tape over their mouths to symbolize that their voice has been silenced by the ballot measure.

More than 13,000 people have joined the protest, from regular people who live in California and across the country to politicians, law enforcement officers, artists and celebrities. Cindy McCain and her daughter Meghan are among the high-profile people featured in the campaign, even though her husband (and Meghan’s father) Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) opposes same-sex marriage and led the opposition to repealing DADT in the Senate.

In their photo, members of the erotic male dance troupe are wearing their stage outfits consisting of a bow tie, shirt cuffs, jeans and a hard-bodied bare torso. Three of the men are kneeling in the forefront and three are standing in the background.
