NY: Rosie Perez Appears in New Gay Marriage Ad

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Appearing in a new video urging New Yorkers to support the legalization of gay marriage, actress Rosie Perez targets anti-gay marriage senators. In the new video for Fight Back NY, Perez specifically targets New York State Senator Ruben Diaz Sr., the Senate’s most vocal opponent of gay marriage.

The political action committee is working to oust New York senators who voted against a gay marriage bill last year.

“I’m extremely disappointed with your position on this matter,” Perez says to Diaz. “With all due respect, sir, your stand represents a lack of justice and equality on this issue. Please take note: You are not speaking for the majority of New York Latinos.”

NY: “Wedding March” Rally Planned at Brooklyn Bridge Sunday

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Gay and lesbian couples can’t legally marry in New York, but one organization hopes to change that with a massive call to action this weekend.

Marriage Equality New York, which has fought for full and equal marriage rights for same-sex couples for more than a decade, will host the 7th Annual Wedding March this Sunday. Without legal marriage, the group says same-sex couples are denied more than 1,138 federal rights and responsibilities, including those related to social security, hospital visitation and immigration, among others.

Historically one of the state’s largest events to push same-sex marriage, this year’s march begins in Foley Square with a rally and speeches, including remarks from Congressman Jerrold Nadler; Borough President Scott M. Stringer, Miss New York 2010 Claire Buffie and “The Real Housewives of New York’s” Sonja Morgan.

Real Housewife of NYC Joins NOH8 Campaign

Friday, August 27th, 2010

The Real Housewives of New York City star Jill Zarin isn’t the type to sit back and do nothing. She’s a go-getter, especially when it involves a cause close to her heart. Jill has now partnered with the NOH8 campaign to fight for “marriage equality and anti-discrimination on a global level.”

“Bobby, Ally, my stepson Jonathan and I were thrilled that Adam Bouska asked us to appear in the NOH8 campaign,” Jill told HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “We all believe in equality and feel strongly that everyone should have the right to marry regardless of their sexual orientation.”

“Being gay is not a choice,” Jill continued. “Our government should not be involved in our sexual lives or orientation.”

NY: Big Gay Italian Wedding Opens in NYC – Interview

Monday, May 17th, 2010

It’s hard to believe that Reichen Lehmkuhl was ever thought to be ugly. In his autobiography, Here’s What We’ll Say, he writes of a note that a girl left in his middle school locker: “She went on to tell me I was ugly, disgusting, and to top it off, a total geek.” He then discusses how he was considered unattractive even as he entered the United States Air Force Academy.

Sitting across from the man backstage at St. Luke’s Theatre, where he’s starring in Anthony J. Wilkinson’s comedy My Big Gay Italian Wedding, finds Lehmkuhl to be the antithesis of the school girl’s assessment. He” good looking…Strike that… He’s very good looking… Strike that, too… He’s extremely handsome… No, that doesn’t quite describe him either… He’s absolutely the personification of male beauty.

Yes, that’s it! His skin is smooth and clear. There isn’t a blemish or shaving nick to be found on his face. His green eyes are both intense yet kindly, and his features rival anything that Michelangelo sculpted: only Reichen Lehmkuhl isn’t composed of Carrara marble. He’s a warm, caring, and intelligent individual who is making his stage debut in this Off Broadway production. In fact, the audience gets to see how chiseled and beautiful he is early in the play when he performs a scene clad only in his tightie whities.
