Republican South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint is making the sexist and homophobic argument that openly gay individuals and sexually active unmarried women should not be allowed to teach in America’s public schools.
DeMint made his controversial comments while addressing a group of religious conservatives Friday in his home state of South Carolina. In a 45-minute speech at the Greater Freedom Rally DeMint covered a range of issues, including the economy, social issues like abortion, and his support for conservative Tea Party candidates.
DeMint claims if someone is openly homosexual they should not be teaching in the classroom. DeMint holds the same position on sexually active unmarried women. However, he is silent about sexually active single men.
