Get Up! For Action Wants to Air Powerful New Marriage Equality Ad on TV

Their “It’s Time” ad to raise awareness for marriage equality has been viewed by more than 1 million people and now the producers want it aired on TV before next weekend’s vote to end marriage discrimination.

GetUp! for Action, an organization that raises awareness for marriage equality in Australia, released the commercial last Thursday from the perspective of one half of a gay couple in love. It builds to the big moment that they want legalized — a proposal to get married. The clip immediately went viral and within three days has had more than 1 million viewings.

Prop 8 Appeal Hearing to Be Televised

Prop 8An upcoming appeals court hearing on the constitutionality of California’s same-sex marriage ban will be televised. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal announced Wednesday that it had granted C-Span permission to carry the Dec. 6 proceedings in San Francisco live.

Supporters of the voter-approved ban are appealing a federal trial judge’s August decision that struck down Proposition 8 as a violation of gay and lesbian Californians’ civil rights.

The January trial that resulted in that decision had been slated for broadcast on YouTube and other federal courthouses. But the ban’s backers objected and the U.S. Supreme Court blocked the plan.
