California, USA: Catholic Bishops Want Flock to Pray for Prop 8

Written by scott on May 3rd, 2013

Prop 8The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops wants Catholics across the country to pray to God to let them continue discriminating. SDGLN reports:

Proposition 8, the 2008 California referendum defining marriage as a union of a man and a woman, “was challenged as being unconstitutional and is now under review by the U.S. Supreme Court, with a ruling expected in June,” a USCCB flyer notes. “The USCCB urges the Supreme Court to uphold Proposition 8. A negative ruling could mean that marriage would be redefined nationwide.” The bishops’ conference has asked Catholics to fast and abstain from meat on all Fridays until the conclusion of the Year of Faith.

As we mentioned yesterday, 62% of rank and file Catholics in the US support marriage equality.

The change to civil law recognizing same sex marriage does not mean the Catholic Church’s doctrine changes. It only means that same sex couples are allowed to marry via civil or religious ceremony….other than Catholic. US civial law is for all US citizens, Catholic dogma is only for Catholics. I’m not Catholic, I respect them but I’m not one of them. Stay out of my life and I’ll stay out of yours is the going rate.
