UK: Head of Anglican Church Admits Position Against Marriage Equality Seen As “Wicked”

Written by scott on August 29th, 2013

Anglican Archbishop Justin WelbyWhile he stopped far short of endorsing marriage equality, Anglican Archbishop Justin Welby acknowledged that he understands young people do not share his views on marriage.

Gay Star News reports:

‘If the same thing happened again I would vote the same way as I did then but I am continuing to think and listen very carefully as to how in our society today we respond to what is the most rapid cultural change in this area than there has been for a very long time. We have seen changes in the idea about sexuality, sexual behaviour. We have to face the fact that the vast majority of people under 35 not only think that what we’re saying is incomprehensible but also think that we’re plain wrong and wicked and equate it to racism and other forms of gross and atrocious injustice. We have to be real about that.’

Maybe there’s room here for an eventual change of heart?

  1. Can this fraud not recognize and honor love when he sees it? What holds him back from supporting Marriage Equality? Surely not the Holy Scriptures that seem to accept bigamy, polygamy, incest, and misogyny as templates for human relations! What about setting at liberty the oppressed, restoring sight to the blind? What is his beef with marriage equality? Does he believe that sexual/affectional orientation has ANYTHING to do with morality? It seems to me that he should step down from his office and go back to the stone cold floor where he accepted his pastoral responsibilities to care for and lead those who are numbered among his flock. He should pray for vision, honesty, wisdom, compassion and at least some ability to discern good from wickedness. How long O LORD must the world wait for a genuinely wise episcopal voice to minister to those who endure this seemingly unending succession of spineless archbishops slouching down the path to irrelevance?
