Governor Mike Pence Gives Indiana the Right to Discriminate Against Gays

Written by scott on March 27th, 2015

Governor Mike PenceGovernor Mike Pence opened the floodgates to anti LGBT discrimination, signing a right to discriminate bill yesterday.

Think Progress reports:

As expected, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) signed into law the so-called “Religious Freedom Restoration Act” (RFRA) Thursday morning in a private ceremony. Proponents of this bill had openly admitted that its intent was to enable businesses to discriminate against same-sex couples, but Pence dismissed those claims in a statement he issued about the bill. “This bill is not about discrimination,” he said, “and if I thought it legalized discrimination in any way in Indiana, I would have vetoed it. In fact, it does not even apply to disputes between private parties unless government action is involved. For more than twenty years, the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act has never undermined our nation’s anti-discrimination laws, and it will not in Indiana.”

Somebody has his head, um, let’s just say in the sand.

  1. Mr Eric G. Osterberg says:

Governor Mike Pence obviously does not understand what he is saying, likely because he was brainwashed by his religion. Freedom of Religion means the right to believe within the religion, not force the religious beliefs on other American citizens. This is why governments must keep church and state separate. Civil laws apply to all American citizens while the many churches that have different doctrines only apply to those within the specific religions.

Obviously this man has a hidden agenda and is using his power for political gain and to stepping on the civil rights of Gay citizens who are taxpayers also, Why is our money good enough but not our equality. Dont worry about who I love, Worry about ISIS or nuclear war, The National debt, out of work families. Like mankind, Gays have been around just about as long. GET OVER IT ALREADY!!!
Write bills on Keeping ALL Americans safe not just the ones who have your ignorant beliefs.

  4. Stephen R Korup says:

MR Governor , you Claim in your Statement that the Bill you signed has nothing to do with “Discrimination” ,Open your Eyes Sir it has everything to do with it. The LGBTQ Community is being Discriminated against in your state by not being allowed to shop in all the stores that will post signs that Claim that they will not sell or serve anyone suspected of being part of the LGBTQ community in their establishments due to Religious Reasons. What are you going to do when the Young Teenager’s that are still in the Closet go into one of those stores, and one of the shopkeepers yell’s something out to embarrass one of them like an off color Gay slur and then throw’s the child out of the store , that’s going to do thing to that child’s mind that you couldn’t imagine.
I bet all you Hate mongerers never thought about what all of this could possibly do to the Young teenagers in the LGBTQ Community, And I bet You All Don’t even Care.

  5. Honorable Governor Pence,

    To wit: Discrimination

The practice of unfairly treating a person or group of people differently from other people or groups of people.

This is exactly what the bill that you have signed has done. In effect you have selected gay people as a group that are citizens of America to be identified within your community and given your community the right to discriminate against them at will. This is wrong and unconstitunally incorrect. I am certain that this decision will cost your state dearly in revenues and will eventually be overturned by the SCOTUS.
