DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) has appealed to Pope Francis to take action regarding homophobic Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez of the Dominican Republic, who attacked gay U.S. Ambassador Wally Brewster by calling him the “wife to a man” who should “focus on housework” rather than comment on affairs of that country. full story

VATICAN: In an interview published Wednesday, Pope Francis appeared to support governments that recognize civil unions to provide non-traditional couples with access to benefits. full story

USA: Marco Rubio is making a play for “traditional values” voters with a new campaign ad targeting those who Rubio says “feel out of place in our own country.” “A government incredibly out of touch, and millions with traditional values branded bigots and haters,” Rubio said. full story

USA: The Justice Department today issued new guidance to law enforcement agencies across the United States intended to stop gender bias in how police respond to crimes against women and the LGBT community, specificlly those involving sexual assault and domestic violence. full story

USA, FLORIDA: The Internal Revenue Service believes being gay is a choice, according to a lawsuit filed by a St. Petersburg gay couple who claim that is the reason they were denied tax deductions for in-vitro fertilization and surrogacy. full story

USA, MICHIGAN: While the Roman Catholic Church continues to oppose marriage equality, many LGBT Catholics have not given up on the church and continue to offer their relationships as examples of love in action — like the couple profiled today by the Detroit Free Press. full story
