USA, Utah: Marriage Equality Ads to Air in State

Tuesday, April 8th, 2014

Terry WoodUtah United for Marriage is airing ads this week for marriage equality in the state.

The Advocate reports:

The ads are set to begin airing Tuesday, with one featuring a large Mormon family and another starring former TV news anchor Terry Wood. Wood says he’s happy to lend his voice to the movement, as it gives him an opportunity to show how his family is directly affected by the issue. His gay son Damien married his husband five years ago in California, but their marriage is not currently recognized in their home state of Utah. “Love is the reason people get married,” Wood said. “My son and his husband have the same love for each other that my wife and I have for each other.”

Ads like these are as important as lawsuits – while our day in court allows us to clear away all the clutter and lies, these ads speak directly to the people who we interact with every day, and can help sway public opinion in support of those court decisions.

Saturday, February 15th, 2014

Empowered Products AdIt’s not often we get excited about a TV ad, but this one caught our eye.

LGBT Weekly reports:

Empowered Products, Inc., an emerging leader in the high-growth sexual wellness sector through its award-winning PINK(R) and Gun Oil(R) brands, has aired its first-ever television commercial. The 60-second spot aired on the Bravo and E! networks in seven major U.S. markets. Empowered Products stated that it believes its commercial is the first by a major U.S. manufacturer or publicly-traded company to utilize an authentic portrayal of marriage equality and service by gays in the U.S. military. The commercial tells the story of a husband wistfully going through the motions of daily life in the family home awaiting the return of his partner and the joy of his homecoming from service.

I got a lump in my throat at the end. It’s truly amazing how far we have come in just the last four years.

New Nordstom’s Wedding Boutique Ad Briefly Features Gay Couple

Saturday, April 6th, 2013

you tube big‘As more and more corporations endorse marriage equality, Nordstrom’s puts its toe in the pond a new video. Queerty reports:

We’re not quite sure where on the spectrum to put this ad for Nordstrom wedding boutique It’s got hip-hop allies Macklemore and Ryan Lewis singing “And We Danced.” There also appear to be some same-sex couples spliced into the mix–but we had to watch the video twice to catch it (at about the :40 mark).

Unfortunately, it’s an online only ad, but hey, it’s a start. And it’s a catchy song.
