We’re not quite sure where on the spectrum to put this ad for Nordstrom wedding boutique It’s got hip-hop allies Macklemore and Ryan Lewis singing “And We Danced.” There also appear to be some same-sex couples spliced into the mix–but we had to watch the video twice to catch it (at about the :40 mark).

Unfortunately, it’s an online only ad, but hey, it’s a start. And it’s a catchy song.

Thankfully, the Coalition of People Whose Lives Are Ruined Whenever Other People Are Treated Equally recognizes that and churned out this completely serious and not at all satirical ad — the best part of which is when little What’s-Her-Face asks her (pretty hot) daddy if he and mommy will still love her if the gays are allowed to marry.

Wonder if we’ll see more from the CoPWLARWOPATE? 🙂

Laura Bush Request Removal From New Marriage Equality Ad

Thursday, February 21st, 2013

Laura BushRemember that new marriage equality ad that we reported on yesterday? The one that hilighted a number of conservatives who support gay marriage? Well apparently Laura Bush is not amused, as Queerty reports:

Representatives for the ex-First Lady reached out to the Respect for Marriage Coalition, the group which created the ad, and asked them to remove the clip of her telling Larry King in 2010 that gay couples “ought to have the same sort of rights that everyone else has.” On Wednesday, the First Lady’s spokeswoman, Anne MacDonald, said Laura “did not approve” of the PSA and is not affiliated with the Respect for Marriage Coalition in any way. “When she became aware of the advertisement last night, we requested that the group remove her from it,” said MacDonald.

It’s a shame the former First Lady doesn’t have the courage to stand by her convictions.

Wednesday, January 9th, 2013

Complaints Dismissed Against New Zealand Ad Depicting Pope Marrying Gay CoupleNew Zealand’s Advertising Standards Authority has dismissed complaints against an ad depicting Pope Benedict XVI blessing a male couple at the altar, deeming it unlikely to cause widespread offense.

The ad is part of a new campaign by electric company Powershop, featuring the slogan “Same Power, Different Attitude.” Four-and-a-half story billboards went up in Auckland and Wellington, leading to four complaints to the ASA that the ad mocked Catholicism.

One such complaint, by a B. Pender, said the ad “is offensive to me as a Christian as it features two males exchanging rings as part of a marriage ceremony in the presence of The Pope…it is attempting to imply that the Catholic Church and The Vatican condone same sex marriage despite no formal communication of said claim.”
