USA, Oklahoma: Pro Marriage Equality Ads Hit the Air

Monday, May 5th, 2014

Oklahoma AdFreedom to Marry is airing a marriage equality ad on Oklahoma TV sets.

Politico reports:

Freedom to Marry, the national marriage legalization effort, is going up on the air starting Monday with a new television ad that will run for a week in the conservative state, as litigants wait for a ruling in a case in front of the 10th Circuit that’s challenging the state’s gay marriage ban. The ad is part of a larger effort to influence popular opinion around greater acceptance for gay marriage as the 10th Circuit and dozens of other cases around the country pend, with the hopes of eventually returning to the Supreme Court for a broader legalization ruling. And it plays heavily on biographical and family values appeals in the deep-red state.

Anyone see any polling out of Oklahoma lately on marriage equality?

USA, Utah: Marriage Equality Ads to Air in State

Tuesday, April 8th, 2014

Terry WoodUtah United for Marriage is airing ads this week for marriage equality in the state.

The Advocate reports:

The ads are set to begin airing Tuesday, with one featuring a large Mormon family and another starring former TV news anchor Terry Wood. Wood says he’s happy to lend his voice to the movement, as it gives him an opportunity to show how his family is directly affected by the issue. His gay son Damien married his husband five years ago in California, but their marriage is not currently recognized in their home state of Utah. “Love is the reason people get married,” Wood said. “My son and his husband have the same love for each other that my wife and I have for each other.”

Ads like these are as important as lawsuits – while our day in court allows us to clear away all the clutter and lies, these ads speak directly to the people who we interact with every day, and can help sway public opinion in support of those court decisions.

Minnesotans United for Marriage’s 2-minute ad features Laura and Kelly Olmsted, who testified before the House panel considering the marriage bill earlier this year. “We wanted to make sure the committee knew that there are families that look like ours, children like ours, all across Minnesota and they deserve the same rights and protections as any other family,” Laura Olmsted says in the video.

See the ad here:

Over at Joe.My.God, he’s reporting on a new print ad too.

Finally, Queerty reports on the sad turn-out at an anti-gay marriage rally:

Just look at the overwhelming crowd of people that showed up to this anti-gay marriage rally in Minnesota recently! Local news coverage estimates “about three dozen people showed up” to the rally, which was held on a flatbed trailer in the parking lot of “Toby’s Restaurant.” How chic!

It’s encouraging how few folks are turning out on the side of discrimination!

Monday, October 29th, 2012

Washington: Eugene Delguadio - Lying to His Donors or the State About Anti Marriage Equality Ads??This week and last the president of Virginia-based Public Advocate of the United States, Eugene Delgaudio, sent fundraising emails claiming that he is running ads against marriage equality in Washington state.

What ads? Nobody has reported seeing them, and there is no record in Washington state’s Public Disclosure Commission online database of Eugene Delgaudio or Public Advocate of the United States making contributions or expenditures related to Referendum 74.

To preserve the state’s marriage equality law, voters must approve Referendum 74 on their November ballot.
