Minnesota, USA: Anti Marriage Equality Rally Held in Duluth

Sunday, April 14th, 2013

MinnesotaGay marriage opponents held a rally in freezing temperatures against marriage equality in Duluth yesterday. The Duluth News Tribune reports:

Married 56 years himself, Jerome Elness of Duluth is so strongly opposed to same-sex marriage that he stood outside in damp, 30-degree weather on Saturday morning to say so. “I believe in the Judeo-Christian moral standards,” explained Elness, 81. “What they’re doing is challenging the Judeo-Christian heritage and the laws of Moses, and they’re putting themselves up above Moses.” Elness, who lives near the University of Minnesota Duluth, was among about 70 people who attended a 45-minute rally staged by Minnesota for Marriage in the parking lot of Mount of Olives Baptist Church on Swan Lake Road. The organization, which is determined to defeat same-sex marriage bills being considered by the Minnesota Legislature, was in the early stages of a road trip that began in Hinckley on Friday and will conclude — weather permitting — in Detroit Lakes and Morris today.

Literally tens of people turned out for the rally.

France: Gay Conservative Speaks Out Against Marriage Equality at Rally

Monday, March 25th, 2013

you tube bigDisgusting. A conservative gay man, Robert Oscar Lopez, flew to France to join the anti-gay rally there yesterday. Joe.My.God reports:

Homocon Robert Oscar Lopez has been quite the busy self-hater, following up his anti-gay SCOTUS brief and anti-gay testimony before several state legislatures with an appearance at yesterday’s hate march in Paris.

I mean, how much do you have to hate yourself and your own community to fly halfway around the world to ensure that others like you can’t enjoy equal civil rights?

It’s really sad to see someone like this get trotted out on stage, so the right can say “see, even the gays don’t really want marriage. But as Change.org reports, this isn’t his first time at the anti-gay rodeo. His speech starts at the two hour and six minute mark, and is in French.

In related news, Think Progress reports on the use of children at the rally as human shields:

Among the protesters challenging the barricade was at least one man who insisted on using his own young child as a kind of human shield to challenge the police. Other young people can be seen nearby. Below are two clips of the violence, and the negligent father can be seen at the end of the second.

France: Police Won’t Allow Anti Marriage Equality Rally on Champs Elysees

Friday, March 15th, 2013

Paris, FranceAs the French Senate prepares to hear the marriage equality bill on April 2nd, opponents are being told they can’t hold a massive rally on Champs Elysees in Paris. Pink News reports:

Equal marriage opponents had been planning a march which promised to be one of the largest yet. Organisers hoped to be able to march down the Champs Elysees, one of the most famous landmarks in Paris, on March 24, showing their opposition to the Marriage for All bill. However, France24 reports that police have turned down the plans, saying they were an “impossibility” due to the Champs Elysees’ proximity to the Elysee Palace, where the French President has his official residence.

The last time they rallied, they so trashed the beautiful city that they were billed $100,000 for clean-up. I can see why the city’s not eager for a repeat visit by these hooligans.

Rhode Island, USA: Hundreds Rally Against Marriage Equality in Providence

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

Hundreds of supporters of same-sex marriage rights assembled at the Rhode Island Statehouse on Tuesday, urging lawmakers to make Rhode Islandhe nation’s smallest state the 10th to allow gay and lesbian couples to wed — and the last to do so in New England.

House Speaker Gordon Fox, who is gay, has called for a vote on same-sex marriage legislation in his chamber by month’s end, making Rhode Island the latest state to address an issue whose supporters see things swinging their way after voters in Maine, Maryland and Washington approved gay marriage last fall.

About 300 supporters and opponents signed up to address the legislative committee reviewing the bill — they were limited to 2 minutes each to keep the hearing from going all night — while hundreds more gathered in the hallways outside the hearing.

France: NOM’s Brian Brown in France for Anti Marriage Equality Rally

Sunday, January 13th, 2013

National Organization for Marriage“A massive rebellion against gay marriage is brewing in France. I’m here now, and I’ll report to you first hand from the rally planned for Sunday. To read the news accounts in the U.S., you would think gay marriage is inevitable here. Like everywhere.

“That’s what they always say, right? Recognize that argument for what it is: a tactic to make you feel helpless and impotent and therefore submissive. To get you to give up and just submit to whatever they have planned. There are only two things we know for sure about the future: it hasn’t happened yet.

“And for those of us who are people of faith–we know that God is in charge. But to be here is to recognize something extraordinary is happening, something totally unpredicted when French President Francois Hollande set out to pass gay marriage: a massive popular rebellion.” – Hate group leader and Vatican stooge Brian Brown.

Maryland, USA: Gallaudet Diversity Officer Reinstated After Anti Marriage Equality Fiasco

Tuesday, January 8th, 2013

Maryland, USA: Gallaudet Diversity Officer Reinstated After Anti Marriage Equality FiascoGallaudet University announced Monday that it had reinstated its chief diversity officer, Dr. Angela McCaskill, after she was placed on paid administrative leave in October for signing a church petition against Maryland’s gay marriage law.

“With this communication I am announcing that Dr. Angela McCaskill has returned to campus to resume her full-time duties and responsibilities as Chief Diversity Officer,” Gallaudet President T. Alan Hurwitz said in a university-wide email obtained by the Washington Blade.

According to Hurwitz, McCaskill’s suspension was prompted by concerns raised by gay and lesbian students on campus who felt it was inappropriate for the campus diversity officer to push for a ballot measure seeking to deny their right to marry.

France: Muslims, Catholics Plan Big Anti Marriage Equality Rally in Paris on Saturday

Tuesday, January 8th, 2013

French Muslims, Catholics Plan Big Anti Marriage Equality Rally in Paris on SaturdayA coalition of French Islamic groups has signed on to join the Catholic Church in a “major” anti-gay marriage rally to take place in Paris on Sunday.

Leaders of almost all main faiths in France have spoken out against the law, but not called on their followers to march in Sunday’s demonstration to avoid giving the opposition campaign an overly religious tone. President Francois Hollande and his government clashed with the Catholic Church last weekend, telling Catholic schools not to discuss the law with their pupils and urging state education officials to report anti-gay discussions at Catholic schools.

“We will protest on January 13 by joining a pluralist campaign to preserve the traditional framework of marriage,” the Muslim activists’ letter said.

Illinois, USA: Coalition Created to Oppose Marriage Equality

Wednesday, December 19th, 2012

Coalition Created to Oppose Marriage Equality in IllinoisSeveral prominent anti-gay groups have formed a coalition to oppose same-sex marriage in Illinois. The coalition includes the notorious Illinois Family Association, which is an SPLC-certified hate group and the former home of Peter Labarbera. Other members are the Eagle Forum, Concerned Christian Americans, Family-PAC, Catholic Citizens of Illinois, Abstinence & Marriage Partners, Thomas More Society, and Illinois Citizens For Life PAC.

Said Penny Pullen, former state legislator and President of Eagle Forum of Illinois, “As foundational as the family is to our society and especially to the well-being of children, it would be both wrong and dangerous for our state to interfere with the family for the sake of a social experiment whose results we cannot know for decades. The risk to future generations is too high to take this chance.”

Washington, USA: Eugene Delguadio – Lying to His Donors or the State About Anti Marriage Equality Ads??

Monday, October 29th, 2012

Washington: Eugene Delguadio - Lying to His Donors or the State About Anti Marriage Equality Ads??This week and last the president of Virginia-based Public Advocate of the United States, Eugene Delgaudio, sent fundraising emails claiming that he is running ads against marriage equality in Washington state.

What ads? Nobody has reported seeing them, and there is no record in Washington state’s Public Disclosure Commission online database of Eugene Delgaudio or Public Advocate of the United States making contributions or expenditures related to Referendum 74.

To preserve the state’s marriage equality law, voters must approve Referendum 74 on their November ballot.
