New Poll: Britons Think Marriage Equality is the Best Thing Conservatives Have Done

Wednesday, October 1st, 2014

titleA new poll shows that only 28% of Britons think that marriage equality was a bad thing the Torys accomplished, compared with much higher negative percentages for their other acts:

The only Tory policy perceived to be “good for Britain” by the public was the introduction of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act, which came into effect on 29 March 2014.
39% said they thought same-sex marriage was good for Britain, 24% said it was neither good nor bad and 28% said it was bad for Britain. The Comres poll for ITV fond that a majority of Britons, 57%, think the management of the NHS under the Tories has been bad for Britain, that 55% thought changes to tuition fees were bad, 56% agreed that increased overseas aid spending was bad for Britian, and 65% said they thought the way immigration has been managed was also bad for Britain.

When you add the Goods, the I Don’t Knows, and the Neutrals, 82% think that marriage equality is either a good thing or does no harm.

United Kingdom: Police Minister Calls Marriage Equality Opposition “Unacceptable”

Sunday, June 3rd, 2012

UK Police Minister Calls Marriage Equality Opposition "Unacceptable"Opposition to gay marriage is “not acceptable” Britain’s police minister has said in a newspaper interview.

Nick Herbert, who is gay himself and in a civil partnership with his partner of 13 years, told the London Evening Standard, “I am getting rather fed up with people metaphorically jabbing a finger into my chest and saying I should put up with a civil partnership.

“How would they like it if I jabbed a finger into their chests and said they should put up with a civil partnership instead of their marriage? In my view it’s not acceptable to say to a group in society, ‘You should put up with something that is a second order institution to something that everybody else is entitled to, because we say so’. I think this is about nothing more or less than a fundamental issue of equality.”

UK: Catholic Official: Gay Equality Turned Britain Into “Selfish, Hedonistic Wasteland”

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

A leading Catholic figure has blamed Britain’s gay rights movement for the UK’s social, religious and political problems, this week.

Edmund Adamus, a leading adviser to the Archbishop of Westminster, blamed abortion and gay equality for turning Britain into a “selfish, hedonistic wasteland” which has become “the geopolitical epicentre of the culture of death”.

He also suggested pro-gay legislation had turned Britain into a country which persecutes Catholics in the same way Saudi Arabia, China and Pakistan persecute Christians.
