Around 1980 I was just starting my photography career when my cousin, who is gay, ask me to photograph a commitment ceremony. I was raised to be very accepting of people so I happily said yes. I borrowed some camera equipment from the photo studio I worked for so I could get some great images. When the photos came back through the studio I almost lost my job because my boss said I shouldn’t have used his cameras for such an event. It was difficult for me to understand why he was upset.

USA, Ohio: Marriage Equality Rally in Cincinnati on Saturday

Thursday, April 10th, 2014

Last week, Federal Judge Timothy Black announced that he would issue a ruling that Ohio’s 2004 Marriage Ban violated the 14th Amendment. Judge Black’s forthcoming ruling is a huge step forward and will add greater momentum to our ongoing fight for equality here at home.

As you may have heard, Attorney General Mike DeWine has indicated that he will appeal Judge Black’s ruling. Supporters of the appeal include Gay RightsRep. John Becker, who repeatedly calls for the impeachment of Judge Black, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich. To counter these anti-equality voices, FreedomOhio and Support Marriage Equality Ohio will join with other LGBT groups to rally this Saturday in support of Judge Black and his upcoming ruling.

Join us for a rally in downtown Cincinnati for Marriage Equality
When: Saturday, April 12, 11am to 2pm
Where: Downtown Cincinnati at 100 East 5th Street

Bring your family and friends and spread the word! Let’s show everyone that Ohio is all about love and equality!

RSVP ON Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/1438161453095596/

Ohio, USA: Assistant Catholic Principal Fired in Cincinnati for Marriage Equality Support

Monday, February 18th, 2013

OhioRemember how up-in-arms the anti-marriage-equality folks get whenever public opinion forces someone out of a job for being against gay rights? Funny how things are different when things are on the other foot, as this story from LGBT Weekly says:

An assistant principal at Purcell Marian Catholic High School in Cincinnati, Mike Moroski, has been fired for a post in support of marriage equality on his personal blog. According to a report on News.Cincinnatti.com, Moroski refused to take down his statements on the blog. “I believe in Catholicism,” Moroski said in an interview. “But my conscience will not permit me to recant my statement.

Guess there’s a little double standard going on here, huh?

OH: Cincinnati May Offer Domestic Partner Benefits

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

Cincinnati Domestic Partner BenefitsCincinnati is considering looking into offering city healthcare benefits to employee’s domestic partners. The motion by Councilman Chris Seelbach is already circulating a motion the have the city administration study and report to the council on how to best to offer the benefits. He also wants to know what it might cost. Seelbach is the first openly gay councilman in Cincinnati.

Despite being openly gay, Seelbach has said that this is not just about helping the LGBT Community. He wants the city to be competitive in attracting new residents. He stated “As we continue to compete for jobs and talent, I don’t want to lose someone because they say they can’t afford to lose benefits for their partner. I don’t ever want that scenario.”

According to News.Cincinnati “Cleveland and Columbus started offering them last year. In Cleveland, it was more symbolic than widespread, with just 15 people eligible after signing up on a domestic partner registry by mid-2011. Others could add partners by paying an extra $8,000 a year. The city’s cost was estimated to be just over $100,000.”
