USA: New Marriage Equality Film Released on DVD

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012

Just got this:

An Affirmative Act DVDAfter a successful national theatrical release, Kenneth Del Vecchio’s AN AFFIRMATIVE ACT – the first-ever courtroom drama about the legalization of gay marriage – is now available on iTunes and DVD. This historic film, released by Screen Media Films and Universal, will be available on VOD beginning December 4, 2012.

Starring multiple Academy Award and Emmy winners and nominees, AN AFFIRMATIVE ACT tackles the illegality of gay marriage head-on. In this thriller, a lesbian couple are arrested and prosecuted for fraudulently marrying as a “man and woman” in order to obtain equal benefits.

Several states have same-sex marriage on their ballots this November, and Kenneth Del Vecchio – a Renaissance Man filmmaker/author/former judge who has brazenly produced one star-filled controversial film after another – created AN AFFIRMATIVE ACT as an effort to change the law.

Leading LGBT publication Go Magazine wrote, “An Affirmative Act is a masterpiece of artistic commentary.” Echelon Magazine proclaimed the film, “A riveting courtroom drama guaranteed to inflame the passions of the masses.”

This landmark film stars Charles Durning (2-time Academy Award, 4-time Golden Globe, 9-time Emmy winner & nominee), Blanche Baker (Emmy winner; Sixteen Candles), Costas Mandylor (Saw movies; The Pledge), Justin Deas (6-time Emmy winner), Randy Jones (Cowboy – “The Village People”), Robert Clohessy (“Boardwalk Empire”; “Oz”), Thomas G. Waites (And Justice For All; The Thing), Rachael Robbins (O.B.A.M. Nude), Jackie Martling (“The Howard Stern Show” ), and Eric Etebari (“Witchblade”; The Lincoln Lawyer).

MN: Catholics Protest Anti-Gay Marriage DVD at Archbishop’s Home

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Some Catholics took their protest of a DVD to the front of the Archbishop’s home on Sunday morning. Some protesters held signs reading “Say No to the DVD” and “I support Gay Marriage.”

The church sent 400,000 DVD’s to Catholic households. It highlights the church’s teaching on marriage — that it only exists between a man and a woman.

A diocese spokesperson has said the church is making no attempt to go after a particular group. They just want to preserve and protect traditional marriage.

MN: Various Takes on the Catholic Church’s Anti Gay Marriage Initiative

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Minnesota’s Catholic bishops are undertaking a campaign to urge Catholics to support a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. The bishops have generated considerable criticism for the timing of the campaign just weeks before the November elections. Here’s a sample of what people are saying:

The editorial board of the Winona Daily News blasted the bishops’ campaign. The opening sentence? “Let’s face it, it’s a lot easier to pick on gay people than it is to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and give shelter to the homeless. It’s probably cheaper, too.”

A reader of the Winona Daily News is upset of the editorial board’s criticism. Thomas A. Szyszkiewicz says gay marriage will lead to incest.

Minnesota Gay Groups Call Catholic Church on Political Campaigning

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Archbishop John Neinstedt says Minnesota’s bishops will be distributing “more than one million” DVDs across Minnesota just weeks before the election. Part of an orchestrated campaign against same-sex marriage, the DVDs were funded by an anonymous donor and produced by the Knights of Columbus, a group that donates to the National Organization for Marriage, which is also running anti-gay marriage ads in Minnesota. While Neinstedt says the effort isn’t about politics, the state’s largest LGBT advocacy group slammed the new campaign.

Dennis McGrath, spokesman for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, told the Minnesota Independent that the campaign is titled, “Preserving Marriage in Minnesota.”

The DVD itself, “One Man, One Woman – Marriage and the Common Good,” is a hodgepodge of anti–gay marriage arguments including statements by Maggie Gallagher, founder of the National Organization for Marriage, who says gay marriage will be taught in schools if it is legalized. (The 14-minute video can be viewed at this Knights of Columbus website.)
