“The Case Against 8” takes an inside look at the groundbreaking Supreme Court case that overturned Proposition 8, California’s ban on same-sex marriage. Five years in the making, with exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the powerhouse legal team of Ted Olson and David Boies, who previously faced off as opposing counsel in Bush v. Gore, along with the four plaintiffs in the suit, the film provides a definitive account of the battle that effectively ended marriage discrimination in California.

USA, California: HBO Will Make Documentary About Prop 8

HBO Documentaries LogoNow that the dust has settled on the Prop 8 case, HBO plans to make a documentary about it. Deadline Hollywood reports:

Ben Cotner and Ryan White are directing the pic which is currently in production by HBO Documentary Films. It tells the story of the people behind the historic Supreme Court case that overturned Proposition 8, California’s ban on same-sex marriage. “For the past five years, Cotner and White have had exclusive access to the work of the powerhouse legal team led by Ted Olson and David Boies as well as the four plaintiffs in the case”, Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming said today in a statement. The untitled feature will be completed by the end of this year for debut on the network in 2014.

Part of me doesn’t want to re-live this sordid chapter in California history, but part of me wants to see it now that I know the happy ending. Whatcha all think?

Gay Marriage Featured on HBO’s True Blood

Denis O'HareDenis O’Hare says his gay marriage on HBO’s vampire drama True Blood is “well-traveled” and “a little frayed at the edges” but “there’s always an incredible deep affection at the base of it.”

True Blood, now in its third season, brings to life the Charlaine Harrris’ Southern vampire mysteries. The 48-year-old openly gay O’Hare made his debut Sunday as Russell Edgington, vampire king of Mississippi.

Edgington, a 2,800-year-old vampire, arrived with his partner of 700 years, Talbot (played by Theo Alexander). The handsome couple are certain to heat up an already hot show.
