Hudson River Photographer

Periodically we’ll feature one of our vendors here to let our readers know about some great people who can help you plan the perfect wedding:

Hi, I am Diane Stredicke, owner of Hudson River Photographer, and I celebrate the legalization of same sex marriage in New York!

I am thrilled to see the number of gay and lesbian couples marrying in New York City, Westchester and the greater Hudson Valley region. Every time a gay or lesbian couple contacts me, I do a little happy dance. Seriously!

About a third of my clients in the 2013 season are gays and lesbians, and I couldn’t be happier. Next year, I hope it will be closer to half!

What does this mean to you?

I understand the small ways same sex weddings are different from straight weddings. All weddings celebrate love and commitment, but gay and lesbian weddings sometimes take fun and unique paths to saying “I do”.

I work to keep my photography artful and authentic. Most of the day, I am simply photograph what I see: your family, your friends, the candid moments that make up the story of your wedding day. I spend time with you to create natural portraits of the two of you that showcase the fun and unique couple that you are!

Choosing your wedding photographer can be difficult. We are the one vendor that will be with you most of the day. Spend some time looking at the photos on my blog – I post every wedding and show lots of images, so you really get a sense of how we work.

Call me or email me today and I’d be happy to talk with you about what we offer, my photography style and pricing.

I work in the Hudson Valley, New York Metro, Connecticut and the Berkshires in Massachusetts.

My work has been featured on “On A Bicycle Built for Two”, “gayweddings.com”, “So You’re EnGayged!” and in the newly published book, “Capturing Love: The Art of Lesbian and Gay Wedding Photography.”

I look forward to learning more about your wedding day!

New York, USA: Marriage Equality Brings in $259 Million in Revenue to NYC

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

New York Gay WeddingsToday, thousands of men and women will be celebrating their first wedding anniversaries as one year ago New York’s heavily praised same-sex marriage law came into effect.

“As the months have gone by, we have embraced what it means to be a spouse,” said Greg Levine, the 33-year-old high school math teacher who was the first to marry in Queens. “There is a sense of satisfaction.”

The impact of same-sex marriage goes far beyond civil rights issues. This morning Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Christine Quinn announced that gay marriage brought the city $259 million in economic impact in the last year (which includes everything from florists to wedding licenses).

New York, USA: NYC Backs Woman’s Lawsuit Against DOMA

Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

New York City Backs Woman's Lawsuit Against Defense of Marriage ActMayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Christine C. Quinn, the speaker of the City Council, announced on Wednesday that they intended to file a legal brief arguing that the federal government’s Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional.

The friend-of-the-court brief will be included in the lawsuit of Edith Windsor, an 83-year old widow in Greenwich Village who has paid more than $500,000 in inheritance taxes since her spouse, Thea Spyer, died in 2009, two years after the couple married in Canada.

Ms. Windsor’s tax bill was more than $360,000 higher than it would have been if the federal government recognized her same-sex marriage (New York, which legalized same-sex marriage last year, has recognized such marriages performed elsewhere since 2008). The Defense of Marriage Act prohibits same-sex couples from receiving some marriage-based benefits afforded to heterosexual couples, like health care benefits, joint filing of taxes and inheritance tax exemptions.
