USA, Michigan: Marriage Equality Case Scheduled to Be Heard October 16

Sunday, September 29th, 2013

MichiganAs we mentioned before, October is shaping up to be a big month for marriage equality. The case in Michigan is scheduled for hearing in the middle of the month.

Freep.com reports:

Arguments originally scheduled for this week have been pushed to Oct. 16 in Detroit federal court. The case hits the docket four months after the U.S. Supreme Court said the federal government can’t deny benefits to legally married same-sex couples. The challenge to Michigan’s ban was in play before the Supreme Court spoke, but attorneys for a pair of Detroit-area nurses believe the decision helps their case. If marriage is a fundamental right, then logic and emerging Supreme Court precedent dictate that the legitimacy of two adults’ love for one another is the same in the eyes of the law regardless of sexual orientation,” lawyers Carole Stanyar and Dana Nessel said in a recent filing.

How long before some of these new cases make their way to the US Supreme Court?
