UK, Scotland: X-Factor Finalist Melanie Masson Speaks Out For Marriage Equality

Scottish Singer Melanie MassonScottish singer Melanie Masson, who recently appeared in the British version of the X-Factor, is speaking out for marriage equality.

Pink News reports:

The Scottish singer, of Glasgow, who was a contestant in series 9 of the X Factor back in 2012, spoke out at the Daily record Our Heroes award. Speaking backstage at the awards the she explains “I support equal marriage because I think in 2013 two people in love should be allowed to be together – to legally wed if they choose to, regardless of sex.” She adds, “If Scotland passes the equal marriage law I would be so proud. It’s something that I feel very passionate about, because the idea of two people in love not being allowed to be recognised, from a love point of view and also from a legal point of view, is appalling.”

Scotland recently announced that it was going to fast-track the marriage equality bill – which means it won’t be ready for the Royal Assent until next March. How long would it have taken if they didn’t fast-track it?

Pink News reports:

Spiteri is best known as the lead singer of pop and rock band Texas, who have sold over 35 million records to date and recently celebrated their 25th anniversary by launching new album The Conversation. Speaking backstage at King Tut’s in Glasgow, Spiteri said: “I support equal marriage because I believe that you should be allowed to love whoever you want to love, and you should be allowed to be with that person if you want to be.”

Things have been suspiciously quiet over in Scotland since the marriage equality bill passed for England and Wales. Anyone have any news?

Sara Bareilles - BraveAfter the release of her single “Brave”, inspired by the coming out struggles of a friend, singer Sara Bareilles spoke out in support of marriage equality. Radio.com reports:

“I think for me this has always been a human rights issue and I feel embarrassed that we’re still having these conversations in 2013,” she said. “I understand why [the issue] is complicated, but to me its such an obvious development that just has to happen.” Bareilles hopes the Supreme Court’s decision sways in favor of the majority of America.

Another celebrity ally stands with us for marriage equality. It really is just a matter of time.

USA: New Marriage Equality Video From Singer Matt Nathanson

Matt Nathanson, the folk rock singer-songwriter who went platinum with his song “Come On Get Higher” is back with “Modern Love,” a new video supporting marriage equality that has already had nearly 200,000 views in just a week.

“People deserve to be free to love who they choose, without prejudice,” says Nathanson, who toured with Kelly Clarkson earlier this year. “The right to marry is an extension of this love. Until the time comes when this is no longer an issue in our culture, modern love will never be enough.”

Rachel Crow Joins NoH8

Rachel Crow for NoH8Singer-actress Rachel Crow has joined the NOH8 Campaign, the silent protest which raises awareness and funds for gay rights causes, including ending California’s 2008 voter-approved gay marriage ban, Proposition 8.

The NOH8 Campaign is helmed by photographer-activist Adam Bouska and his partner Jeff Parshley. The pair photograph celebrities and everyday folks with their mouths duct taped and the campaign’s familiar “NOH8” slogan often written on one cheek.

The 14-year-old Crow, who was born and raised in Mead, Colorado, came in 5th place overall in the first season of the U.S. version of The X Factor. Her first public performance came at the age of six as part of her school’s talent show. She currently plays Starr on cabler Nickelodeon’s series Fred: The Show.
