New Ohio Marriage Equality Ad to Air

Wednesday, July 30th, 2014

OhioFor the first time in a decade, a new Ohio marriage equality ad will air in the state.

ABC6 reports:

Starting Wednesday an ad supporting gay marriage will begin running statewide. The TV spot tells the story of George and Henry – they’re two Ohioans who have been together fifty years. Although their marriage license says New York, here’s how the commercial ends: “Hopefully, Ohio will be next.” Next week, a huge rally will be held in Cincinnati. Mike Premo, of Why Marriage Matters Ohio told ABC 6, “We’re expecting a really big turnout. It’s going to be a historic day.” The rally will be held the night before a federal court hears gay marriage cases from four states.

It won’t be long now, Ohio.

USA: Gay Wedding Planner Brings Marriage Equality to TV

Friday, September 7th, 2012

David TuteraDavid Tutera lives in a dream — the world of dream weddings, that is. The gay wedding planner extraordinaire is back with a new season of his rags-to-riches reality show, My Fair Wedding: Unveiled, which premiers at 9 pm September 8 on WE.

The Advocate caught up with Tutera to hear what’s new in the revamped series, find out if we’ll see any LGBT couples this season, and wax poetic about marriage equality. Tutera has a personal — and professional — stake in the fight for marriage equality, as a man who married his husband in Vermont nine years ago and who makes his living producing gorgeous weddings for couples around the country.

What is going to be different about this season on My Fair Wedding: Unveiled?

It’s really different. It’s a less buttoned-up version of me. Every wedding still comes off with a beautiful finish, but the journey has a lot of bumps in the road. We decided to call the show Unveiled because we really are lifting the curtain and showing you inside my world.

Prop 8 Appeal Hearing to Be Televised

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Prop 8An upcoming appeals court hearing on the constitutionality of California’s same-sex marriage ban will be televised. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal announced Wednesday that it had granted C-Span permission to carry the Dec. 6 proceedings in San Francisco live.

Supporters of the voter-approved ban are appealing a federal trial judge’s August decision that struck down Proposition 8 as a violation of gay and lesbian Californians’ civil rights.

The January trial that resulted in that decision had been slated for broadcast on YouTube and other federal courthouses. But the ban’s backers objected and the U.S. Supreme Court blocked the plan.
